Rose Lane Cottage started as a dream. It originally was my dream to open
a Tea House. I’ve always loved dining in quaint houses turned into tearooms.
I imagined myself baking scones, pouring tea and wearing a vintage style
apron. But I didn’t like the idea of baking early in the morning and
being busy every Saturday. So the dream sat on the shelf.
Years later, my three sisters and I dreamed about opening a gift store, one
that would sell some romantic and cottage style items. But the reality of
that was more than we could manage, what with full-time jobs.
Fast-forward a few more years. My husband and I both longed to make a greater
investment in our family, in our home and in our dreams. But my husband worked
long hours as an engineering manager, which often required him to travel.
One Saturday morning, sitting watching our boys play football, we talked
again about this dream to make an investment in what really matters to us.
My husband said, “What about that cottage thing you and your sisters
talk about? What if we did that, but did it on the Internet?”
So my engineering-minded husband set out to change our lives for the better.
He decided that the only way to do this was to plow full-steam ahead full
time. With his mind for finances and business management, and my love of
cottage-style decorating, we knew we could make it work. So he gave his company
notice, we took out a home equity loan and started Rose Lane Cottage.
Now we work from home, have lunch with our kids at school and get to pick
out products that turn a house into a home. We value a return to the simpler
life, when faith and family took priority. Every item we sell is lovingly
handpicked with that in mind. Whether it’s a hand-painted teapot, a
vintage style toy or a shabby chic cabinet, you’ll find the essence
of a cottage home.
